Писав на урду та англійською мовами. Брав участь в індійському національно-визвольному русі.

У 1969 році був удостоєний премії «Падма Шрі».

Як письменник прославився дилогією романів «Революція» (1954) і «Мир - моє село »(1973).

за кіносценарієм Аббаса були зняті фільми« Бродяга »(1955),« Пан 420 »(1956). Спільно з радянським режисером В. М. Проніним поставив фільм «Ходіння за три моря» (1958).
